Looking through my past blogs I thought I would give a roundup of the year. I am totally stealing the idea from another blog I follow, and I was stuck about what to blog about so this round up will do just perfectly. The thing is, I am going to re vamp the blog in the new year. I have some projects and travels lined up for 2015 and not only will I have the time to “re-brand” but feel it will suit the content I hope to put up. Again, when looking at the past posts it all seemed to dry up leading up to this one. So here are some life gems and blog gems I thought deserved a 2014 shout out. Holla!
Curve-
In January I wrote a post that I was pretty proud of. I spent the time sifting through content to highlight that the use of “Plus size” models was saturated with the overtly sexy. I was craving to see visual fashion/lifestyle imagery in the aesthetic style I liked; soft natural lighting, modern, soft, artsy or quirky. I wanted to see more of a diversity of sized models (professional or just photo subjects) in these scenes. I managed to collect examples of how bigger girls can be used and it still be beautiful/cool/edgy, though it was a thorough search!
Stationary-
In Feb I posted some Stationary designs as I was really getting into the spirit of designing my wedding invitations! Well on top of those I was asked to design a personalised stationary suite which included the main invite, reception cards and the order of services. The client loved hers, I loved mine and so if anyone else is interested in wanting their own for whatever occasion; please feel free to get in touch! I photographed some of my designs but the SD card they were on has gone walkies :(
Travel-
I continually blurt out about travel, about the places I have seen or dream to see. This year even though I was hard out saving for my wedding I managed to sneak in a mini break to Madrid and Don Benito, a few days in Cornwall and a fantastic girls weekend in Paris. This all leading up to the biggie that was Mexico in October but more about that later.
The best blogs I like to follow always have a great personal style element. Whether it be an obvi outfit of the day sort of thing or good lifestyle posts with a mention of where they bought (x) they are wearing, I am in to that. So I started to slowly introduce that to the blog too with some of my outfits, and how to recreate the look. Looking back, I had some cute outfits!
I hadn't been to a ridiculous amount of weddings this year unlike 2013 where I went to a fair few but you know there was a pretty big one not too long ago. We all know what I am talking about…Solange Knowles’! Haha, kidding. But I did blog about hers. Earlier this year Rock n Roll bride featured my friends Simon and Sally’s wedding on their blog and it was so cute that I started to see people pinning elements of their wedding on to their Pinterest boards (so good); and in July I also went to my dearest school friend Hetal’s Indian wedding and it was amazing!!!! Other than Solange’s wedding the wedding of the year for me was MY OWN! #mexipino2014 was the time of my life. It was a beautiful time with friends and family. I will write about the whole wedding saga in the new year but you can see some of the wedding photos on our photographer Marc Ash’s blog. Just thinking of it all is making me a little teary.
So that is it for 2014. I think it might be safe to say this will be my last post this year, I have a pretty packed schedule this Christmas season. Chris and I will be cooking Christmas dinner at my parent’s place and then on boxing day we will be off to my in-laws for a few days in Windsor. I also have lined up a cool Hip Hop/R&B night for NYE in Brixton so that should be a whole lot of funsies. On that note, I shall part by wishing you all who read my ramblings and scribbles a very blessed New Year and Marry Christmas, and a big thanks for your support of this little space called The Bamboo District.
