In homage to Kate Hudson and this beautiful front cover of the latest US Harpers, I have rounded up a collection of the All American blonde babe from the past. Previously they have been given a bad rap, of being too 'commerical', mainstream and seemingly boring. This may have been true due to the over saturation of this look in the past when diversity in the media was rare, but as it has now leveled out it's time to highlight again these fantastic creatures. They exude sunshine, fun and embody that California vibe. Key players are good old Kate, Michelle Pfeiffer, Miss Monroe and even Mama Goldie Hawn herself! It's nice seeing that every type of look is different, and every type of look can be beautiful! Who are your favourite blonde All American Babes of the present?

Knowing full well of the cheesy family album aspect of all this we just couldn't help ourselves. Take four good friends, instagram lovers, a beautiful home and some spare time and what you get is a our Vanity Fair inspired at home photoshoot! It was so much fun and really makeshift with us all taking turns to hold our phone torches up for extra lighting and me running out of my seat numerous times to set the timer for our group shot. This all came about via the interesting mind of Andy Burton (Below), so Boy Burton this is for you!
All Images for Gala Magazine via FGR I am a super fan of crossed genres so this shoot from German publication Gala was right up my alley. Stylists Alexx and Anton nail this 'new grunge' aesthetic right on it's head integrating classic grunge signatures such as plaid and oversize layering with pretty coloured florals; and luxurious fabrics such as lace and faux fur. DM boots and chucks adorning the feet set this look off perfectly.
Last week I attended the Company Style Blogger awards which I know many of you voted for me to win the 'Best Designed' category. Again, thank you so much. Unfortunately I did not win but as much as it is a cliche to say, I feel special even getting so far. The night was fun too and there were so much awesome freeness (inc, BAR!!) that the goodie bag alone made the wearing heels in the rain worth it. As I turned up alone I was a bit apprehensive as to how the night will pan out but after doing the room circle, you know; when you do a lap of the place you are to check out the scenery (usually apt for when going to the club) and taking some snaps here and there I sat down and got to chatting to the lovely Toni from tandffashion; her blog was up for best style blog. We stuck together for the rest of the night and it was a blast, and get this....SHE GREW UP IN WEMBLEY! Like me! Haha. So after the awards were read out there were many things to check out like a sunglasses customizing section, a Paul Mitchell hair corner and a photobooth. As I am balls at at 'networking' I gave myself one goal and it was to chat to the Editor of the magazine Vicky White, and I did and she was a doll. Without much strategy I ended up nattering away to the acting Photo Editor and a features writer which was nice too. The annoying thing was that everyone was asking if I had a card....do people who blog have cards now?! That is something I never considered, especially when the idea of writing as a title 'blogger' actually make me cringe. The whole night was an enjoyable experience but something I am not seeking to attend often. However, after the night was over, when I was travelling home I did have some ideas about the future of my blog; what it could be as a brand and the overall direction of it and it put my mind into overdrive. In a good way! In conclusion, there is a lot of work that needs to be done by me, but hard work pays off right?? Pics of the night! Instagram (@mamabamboo)!
Photo: Just Jared Today the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards are upon us and if you do not know TheBambooDistrict.com is a finalist for their Best Designed Blog Award! The awards are being held at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane London and too be honest I have no idea what to expect. I was taking a peek through twitter and looking at the awards hastags and it seems that a lot of the nominees are going all out with their outfits...uhoh. However, considering I am probably about 10 years older than the average person there and I am coming from work I am not stressed about going over the top with my look today. I have opted for an old Bamboo tie dye fringe t shirt and some high waist slacks. If I do end up winning...let's just hope I do not do a Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars!
Video and Photo viaRefinery29 There is no doubt whatsoever when it concerns my adoration of this woman's music and style presence. Solange Knowles has teamed up with cool trend led site Refinery29 to create this video of her donning her amazing outfits, showcasing the cute haunts of South Brooklyn all to the soundtrack of her own song "Locked in the Closets". This video will make you like her even more and for me, to add to my outfit love for her...her freakin home looks envious too. The Queen of prints and colour! Ugh. She. Is. Perfect.
Woooohoooo! How exciting! We got shortlisted for the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards 2013 for the Best Designed Blog category. Thank you so much for all of you who nominated and voted for me thus far. To proceed further with this I need to kindly ask for you to vote for again pretty please with cherries on top! If you click on the voting site here you can click to vote for www.thebamboodistrict.com in section 4 of the shortlist. Why not check out the other fantastic sites featured in the other categories too, there is some amazing work out there that the other bloggers have created too.
Whether I win or lose I just want to say thank you all so much for supporting me and my blog, it really means a lot. I enjoy posting here and I am happy that many of you enjoy browsing around sharing in my brain spill. In the words of my brown town peeps of the Philippines, Maraming Salamat! x Photos via FGR Bloody Brilliant covers for the fashion issue of Stylist Magazine. Model Miao Bin Si stuns in every cover of the exclusive 3 set for their s/s 2013 issue. With the dynamic Hong Kong streets as the backdrop this editorial embraces the luxurious fashion power of the East. Shot by James Meakin and styled by Alexandra Fullerton, the results are timeless images of a timeless land.
Photography by Josh Olins I have brought it back with a classic for this Editorial Envy. The gorgeous Goddess that is Lakshmi Menon seriously giving some strong face, working that long straight black weave and just basically being amazing. Shot by Josh Olins and styled by Nicola Formichetti (yes of Gaga fame) this shoot is definitely as modern classic.
Images: ASOS Post Design: The Bamboo District I remember the days when ASOS was such a budget website that people would not really want to go on as it had clothing that B list celebrities wore. But hot diggidy damn, look at what it has become. It is the online shopping space for most people, men and women. The forefront of street styles and a production force in fashion media. I love their online magazine which gets sent to you or you can view online and they also always add a behind the scenes video of the cover shoot. Their editorials are very girly, stylish and fresh basically my kind of story! Check out these behind the scenes videos...you never know, you might get treated to a Bamboo one sooner than you think...
