Brexit. Beyonce. Beginning 30.
Something also happened since my last post. I turned 30! Within my friendship group I am not the first to transition into my thirties and as they all experienced their melancholy at this aging milestone I was quick to perkily say "Don't worry, you're not old", "You still have plenty of time to do XYZ", "Don't be silly, you have good XYZ", "At least you XYZ" etc blah blah blah which is all true but, what I want to say now is "I'm sorry you feel the way you do, regardless of what is true of your reality and what is going for you. Getting older is weird, and it makes you feel weirdly sad, I know because I feel weirdly sad now too".
I am an optimist, mostly. I count my blessings all the time and wouldn't have enough fingers and toes to mark them all. I'm loved, sheltered, traveled, a contributor to society, got a bag of good stories to tell my future kids and importantly...have eaten some amazing meals! All the things I look at to truly stop me spiralling in a hole of self pity. Though I can't help but feel this is a time of evolution, a chance to really grab by the horns the things I want, but to streamline these desires too. The realities of responsibility are more apparent now, the need to look further than your immediate future and start preparing for them now. How many times have you thought to yourself, 'If only I didn't give that up...' or 'Why didn't I start (insert the thing you wanted to try) when I first thought about it, I would be an expert by now' etc. So now, hopefully this 30 year old will persevere with the things she is doing now, and will start doing now the things that will be of benefit in the future though benefits may not be seen in the immediate.
All this 30s malarky is a nice springboard to also tell you I went to the Beyonce Formation World tour in Wembley Stadium too. This Woman though has always been special has really come into her own in her thirties (she's 34). She also has the best bottom I have ever seen, so much so I have now been doing lots of squats! The concert was one of the best shows I have ever seen, she truly is a superstar entertainer. 2 hours of non stop hits, dance moves and an amazing stage show made for a memorable night.
Solange, Queen B's sister and my style icon also turned 30 a few days before me and celebrated in such style. Have a look at her New Mexico photoshoot with friends, and if you follow her on snapchat she also held a cool Revival service which looked so fun. I mention these things to remind myself that there is much fun and vibes in store regardless of aging, haha.
To end this post here is a list of some other people who have turned 30 recently or will do before the year is out-
Solange, Lady Gaga, Drake, The Olsen Twins, A bunch of people off Glee, Kit Harrington (you know nothing Jon Snow!), Usain Bolt, Rafa Nadal, R-Patzzz and Lena Dunham. Not a bad bunch eh.
Signing off, team 1986.
