A few weeks before Christmas Coffee brand Barako Bean held an evening bringing together coffee enthusiasts and other faces of the British Filipino community to sample their new blends and try out some other sweet treats provided by Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream and supper club team The Adobros. I popped along, ate a bunch, chatted to some cool folk and grabbed some photos! The activated charcoal coconut latte was really good, different from other coconut milk based coffees and The Adobros providing traditional desserts such as Bibingka and Silvanas. The event was sponsored by Don Papa Rum so for a stronger kick Barako Bean co-owner Jovan was on hand serving his special Espresso Martinis. One thing synonymous with Filipino culture is family and you can really feel that with the gang at Mamasons dirty ice cream. Owner Omar has really cultivated a strong community vibe in the Kentish town area providing a great space to meet but also giving opportunities for young talent to shine which was seen when some took the floor and sang for the crowds. Like mentioned before it was a great opportunity to meet some new people and add a few more profiles to my Instagram Following list such as Lewis, a cool chap who like to blog about Coffee (@coffeewithlewis) and the Native Province team who are behind a really cool blog that focuses on the Philippine diaspora especially in the UK (@nativeprovince). I had a great time and made me think I should seek these things out more often so, if you are organise anything INVITE ME PLEASE! Cheers.
