The stars of the shoot definitely have to be the modern styling and the beautiful Hanboks. The edgy and quirky accessorising adorning the traditional threads of many colours, all to the background of this great location is truly breathtaking. Apart from the name of the photographer my research has left me a little stumped as to who the additional team were (being written in Korean and all) but I really want to credit & acknowledge them so if you happen to know, please send me the info.
Photo:Kang Hye-Won for Vogue Korea 2013 I keep mentioning my upcoming travels, and though NYC is over and I'm writing this from London we still have the Asian and European legs to look forward to. Hoorah! One place on the itinerary is SEOUL and I am so freaking excited! Not only do some of my dearest friends hail from there (some real good peoples) and their food is drool worthy (bibimbap, anyone?) their style/fashion is so on point it hurts. I've posted content from Vogue Girl Korea before, also posted about their street style and recently started following this cool (south/republic of )Korean Style Insta called GarbageLapsap; so as you can see, the love affair is real. Therefore I was extremely happy to find this absolutely GORGEOUS editorial in Vogue Korea from 2013 from Ogh Sang-Sun. Photos by Alexander Neumann for Vogue Mexico Two recent thoughts I was having have been dissipated with this featured Editorial Envy courtesy of Vogue Mexico via Fashion Gone Rogue. One, "Ugh, how am I going to Bamboo vibe it through Winter, it's impossible!" & Two, "There's nothing good on Fashion Gone Rogue anymore." Well, the fact that I am reposting from FGR means that Two is not true and One is being negated from these fantastic styling examples by Katie Burnett. We are in the depth of winter now being December and I was lost in finding my everyday, go to look that was me and weather friendly. What is Bamboo Style when it hits the minus? It is this! Leather for the edge, feathers and furs nodding to the earthy nomad dressing of the Navajo and some great chunky knits akin to the colder South American nations like Peru. Perfect! Model Alana Bunte looks cool too with her bold and strong hairstyle and piercing stare. I now need to play dress up when I get home! Photos via FGR
All Photos by Rog Walker via Vogue.com Riding on the end of my own wedding fever this morning I woke to a text from my equally gassed friend reading "Solange wedding pics". That alone broke the sleepy spell of waking up for work on a Monday morning as I jumped out of bed and Googled away. Oh Queen of Style Solange, I adore thee. What a truly unique visual for your wedding. So modern, and cool. The day featured two outfits, for the arrival and post party, a cream low cut jumpsuit and for the ceremony a custom made Kenzo gown both featuring some good cape action. Here are some of the official wedding portraits by Rog Walker featured on Vogue who got the first look in. Feast away.
Photo source Another season another Dries Van Noten review/write up/general lovefest. Paris Fashion Week was the stage to showcase DVN's new SS15 RTW collection. Fresh from my recent Paris trip where I went to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs to see his Exhibition of his inspirations, I was reminded why I adored his style and aesthetic so much. It was a multi media collection at the Exhibition too with not only pieces of his work on display but lots of photos, runway videos and even videos of the intricate processes he incorporates with embroidery and beading. I could of stayed there for hours. However back to the recent collection. Again not straying too far from his well known leanings to the world traveler his exotic prints and colours in this collection is the dream wardrobe of the sophisticated adventurer. The offerings range from cold shoulder, flowing dresses. Layered sheer long shirts over slouchy silk trousers. Topped off with long line jacquard jackets and low platform fur lined shoes. I just love how cool the girls look, but in a way that is effortless and inspirational. So with all that and my current desire I would like to ask the genie in bottle to grant me all these clothes please...and to add 6 inches on height so I can pull it off. Cheers. Here is a nice video with the main man himself. Photos via Kinfolk Magazine by We are the Rhoads on Instagram I follow a variation of accounts. Bar my friends and family I follow the life snaps of Footballers, Models, Designers; even a bunch of cool Mums. Two accounts I had stumbled on and started following were of a couple and their kids. Just typing that sounds a little creepo but with the thousands of other followers it's safe to say there is just something that resonates with many to do the same. The family in mind are of John Moore and Hannah Henderson; and their two kids. John has a design studio and Hannah has a store of curated goods called the General Store. So, I have been following their accounts a while and the reason why I'm blogging about them is that my boy man Chris was working with a filming crew from the states recently and the main DP on it happened to be the cinematographer on a piece on the family for Kinfolk Magazine. Kinfolk is a media lifestyle phenomenon where they have content over print, digital and events; inspiring homemade, and crafty lifestyles for the hip crowd. This video sums it all up basically. Beautiful people, homes, fashion; food! It's all there. I am not going to lie and say i'm not slightly envious as it all looks pretty perfect; however I am not silly to think this is everyday reality. It's still gorge though...watch the video and tell me if the Dad skating with the long haired boy is not the cutest thing. Why not peek the whole photo essay on the family at Kinfolk'swebsite.
Here I am, at the Golden hour of my friend's wedding. It was held is a pretty barn house, and there were even horses behind me when this pic was taken; taken by the fittie head of PINYATA. This was the first time I wore this dress, it was on sale at ASOS for £12 or something like that. It made me feel sophisticated; and boho seeing as I don't have dresses this length and print really. It wasn't a real maxi but cut just above my ankles which I adored as I didn't feel swamped. I loved the cold shoulder cuts too. It ended up being the perfect dress for the turn of a cold season. My shoes have this really cool mirror reflective heel which you can't see too much of; it is a quirky effect but scratches easily so not ideal. I may need to paint over them in the future. Lastly my hair flowers were actually from an artificial potted plant from good old IKEA! The link for the actual ones I am wearing are below.
So this wedding, was my last one as a guest before my own! Less than 2 months to go! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Guys. Wedding Cray Cray has officially hit me. It is just two months until our Mexican wedding adventure; and even less until our UK marriage ceremony. We had not needed to do anything for months and now...BAM! It's all go go go. My brain has been saturated with spreadsheets, seating plans...I'm not totally stressed out, but I am more stressed than the peaced out hippy I have been up until now. Still awaiting some guest confirmations...with an R.S.V.P date of May! Lol. Been exercising so I can fit into my dress, and manged to hurt my back, haha; and trying to get a start on making the accessories for my bridesmaids. So much to do. On the plus side, my Mum came back from Philippines and brought me back my veil that my Auntie and her made. I love it so much. I think it is beautiful.
So, if I have been slack with my blog; well it's because I have turned into a nut job, haha. I have however managed to squeeze in a girls weekend to Paris next weekend though which I am so chuffed about. I will have much photos to share from there with you all too after that. I hope all my Bamboo Babies are doing well and I hope to post more frequently soon. In the meantime enjoy this awesome Vogue shoot by Mario Testino from 2011. What beautiful brides eh! "I can see the sea!", "I can smell the salt!"; "I can hear the waves!". Those were my excited soundbites when visiting Cornwall this past weekend. I have posted my trips to Cornwall on this space twice before but here we are again, round three. I was the embodiment of British optimism when it came to having a beach day. I donned one of my new Mexico bikinis, laid on the sand for a but 20 mins and as you could tell from the photos; it rained! Fail. The following days later we went to the beach again but went for cliff walks; and fully clothed sand sitting while eating steak pasties. They are yum. We also spent some time hiking up Dartmoor hanging out with the wild ponies and trying to step over all of their poop. It was all good. Oh Cornwall. I Love thee. Thanks for hosting us Wifey Jo! Next up, Paris in 3 weeks! x
This past week has been so special, and a wonderful step through memory lane too! My good friend Hetal got married this weekend; we have been friends since secondary school and still enjoy many laughs and dinners to this day. We were put in the same form class in year 7 and with two other friends formed a little group called the Awesome Foursome, haha. Fun fact, three members of said crew would of been married in 2014, if you are reading this Jigna, there's still time for you! The days leading up to the ceremony which was on the Saturday lead me to paths once frequently trodden but not visited for years; as I had to visit my friends' homes which were near our old Secondary School (Claremont Massive, what what!). It was strange walking the streets that shaped my youth. I had to go and try on Saris the Tuesday which are really tricky to put on; and then on Thursday attended the Mehndi night, where people can get awesome designs painted on their hands, eat awesome food and watch awesome dancing. Chris accompanied me for the ceremony and reception on Saturday. He looked sooooooo handsome. His blazer and trousers were from Zara, which fantastically had a sale on. The jacket was £90 off! The ceremony was interesting to watch. We could choose to get up and have a look closer, and the Priest didn't have a microphone or anything, so people were free to chatter and wander around...we were even given ice cream at one point. The Bridal Couple looked amazing; I nearly cried when I saw Hetal coming down the aisle...I AM A SAP. Actually everyone looked great, so much colour, sparkle and coolness is involved in Indian Wedding attire. After the first part we went home for under three hours, I fell asleep and had to rush to get ready for the Reception which was so much fun. Uncles and Aunties LOVE to dance. I didn't take many photos as my battery died, but here is one of my and my girl Jigna!
