The stars of the shoot definitely have to be the modern styling and the beautiful Hanboks. The edgy and quirky accessorising adorning the traditional threads of many colours, all to the background of this great location is truly breathtaking. Apart from the name of the photographer my research has left me a little stumped as to who the additional team were (being written in Korean and all) but I really want to credit & acknowledge them so if you happen to know, please send me the info.
Photo:Kang Hye-Won for Vogue Korea 2013 I keep mentioning my upcoming travels, and though NYC is over and I'm writing this from London we still have the Asian and European legs to look forward to. Hoorah! One place on the itinerary is SEOUL and I am so freaking excited! Not only do some of my dearest friends hail from there (some real good peoples) and their food is drool worthy (bibimbap, anyone?) their style/fashion is so on point it hurts. I've posted content from Vogue Girl Korea before, also posted about their street style and recently started following this cool (south/republic of )Korean Style Insta called GarbageLapsap; so as you can see, the love affair is real. Therefore I was extremely happy to find this absolutely GORGEOUS editorial in Vogue Korea from 2013 from Ogh Sang-Sun. Photo by Chris Martinez @ Pinyata It's been quiet here on el Blog for a moment, as I've been away to New York City. The last time I visited the big apple was in 2009 for Chris and my one year anniversary. Oh how time flies eh? After that trip I put a self imposed ban on myself from visiting there again until five years had passed. You see, since I was younger I always went there. The flights were reasonable, I had family and friends to stay with and the dollar was weak so my money went far. I experienced so many cool moments there, spent the summer of my 21st Birthday running the streets and avenues, and did all the cool things this intense place had to offer. However, I told myself to see more of the world, and I did. What brought me back to New York was a wedding! Yes another one :) Chris and I extended our time there to catch up with family, and to see Boston. We also had the time to do that as....I quit my office job! I mentioned in an earlier post that I will be doing way more travelling this year, running around the globe with my husband and that is what we are doing, So New York was the first stop on our tour coined #mexipino2015 which will also include HK, Philippines, Seoul, Viet, Barcelona and Denmark. If you click on the hashtag there are some photos from Instagram on there but I will write again a more in depth post with some photos taken by my man. I took photos on my phone and woe to me my SD card corrupted wiping three years of media off my phone.
GAH!! x "I can see the sea!", "I can smell the salt!"; "I can hear the waves!". Those were my excited soundbites when visiting Cornwall this past weekend. I have posted my trips to Cornwall on this space twice before but here we are again, round three. I was the embodiment of British optimism when it came to having a beach day. I donned one of my new Mexico bikinis, laid on the sand for a but 20 mins and as you could tell from the photos; it rained! Fail. The following days later we went to the beach again but went for cliff walks; and fully clothed sand sitting while eating steak pasties. They are yum. We also spent some time hiking up Dartmoor hanging out with the wild ponies and trying to step over all of their poop. It was all good. Oh Cornwall. I Love thee. Thanks for hosting us Wifey Jo! Next up, Paris in 3 weeks! x
I said I was going to post more summery outfits and what can be more summery than a shorts and top print combo! In this photo I am in Spain so happy that I can wear these separates together. I wear the top all the time with jeans in all seasons and getting to don the shorts on holiday made me love the top again in a different way as it is a whole new look. This little number is from the Philippines, where we just where them like house lounge wear. I had bought many items like this in 2012 to sell on, I sold a few pairs of shorts and dresses but summer didn't really hit off that year and people weren't really interested in the sets. I started wearing some of them myself which was cool as I loved the look and would of bought them if another high street retailer sold them so thought it was a no brainer to just keep them. However now in 2014 it is all about Print SETS! I was a year too early it seemed, haha. However though my collection was limited to shorts and tops places like Topshop and ASOS have a variety of cropped tops, with trousers, shorts and skirts of all lengths which is great. Print is my thing, and when fashion decides it is only for hippies and safari goers again I will ignore them all and still dress like the little island girl I am. :) Are you off on holibobs soon? Have a look at some cool threads that are out at the moment...and a look at my sister too in the middle, coz she is a babe.
We left the City of Madrid and rented a car to drive down to a region in Spain called Extremadura. It is a three hour drive from Madrid with the majority of it being along one road (which is good for me as I had to drive back!) My Amigo Jeremias is from a town there called Don Benito, which isn't the main town but cute and pretty none the less. The region is filled with little Cities rich is history, and masses of naturally stunning views. If you look one way there is dry ground with rows and rows of olives trees poking through. Look another way and the mountains on the horizon have snow tipped peaks. We visited a place called Merida which housed numerous Roman ruins, such as tombs, roads and amphitheaters. Medellin which was less than 10km from Don Benito had a very handsome Castle on a hill which had the most breathtaking views. We had some time with Jere's family aswell who were just peaches. One thing that I wish I could do everywhere I visit is to have a home cooked meal with some locals. Jere's family cooked us up a tasty Seafood Paella with Spanish meats and cheese to start! Even though I could not understand everything I loved the vibrant Spanish chatter exchanged at the table. I really need to brush up on my Spanish! Before we first reached Don Benito we also stopped off a quaint town called Trujillo which is a quietly populated town who have kept a lot of the old style buildings and Churches making it a nice place to visit for the locals of neighbouring towns. Apparently they hold music concerts there over the summer which sounds amazing. I truly loved this break. Admittedly when I woke up in London after we got back I was a little sad but had to realize that at least I got to experience such a beautiful place, in the sunshine with some swell people. Jere's parents invited us to visit them in their other house near Barcelona, so maybe I can do this all again but from their. Time to start saving. Enjoy the photos! *LONG PHOTO POST FOLLOWS* This is Trujillo. These kids at the fountain were so cute. Could this be anymore picture perfect? I annoyed the boys in wanting this group photo. We tried to take it somewhere else first but I kept messing up the exposure. Then we got this in one take. It's my favourite! I call it Carroza.Fabello.Martinez Thanks Jeremias for driving us around your local spots! Chris' Thank you. Next is the town of Merida filled with Roman history. If you look closely at the photo below, on the top of the old arch there is a bird building a nest. There were so many of these birds and they were like huge stalks! Unfortunately Jere lost his phone at this spot, we went back to find it but think one of the birds swooped in and stole it! Pretty boys and flowers. I adore food and family! Senor Carroza and Pablo! Antonio & Jeremias & Christopher This Castle is in a town called Medellin. When we walked the edges of the wall it made me think I was in Game of Thrones. Haha. Lost boy. This lake and field is near Don Benito where every summer people camp out and have a little dance party. Imagine having this on your door step. Paradise. I loved this place soooooo much. Here's to more travels with my golden boy, at the golden hour of sunset. :) Spainstagrams 2!
Here is part uno of my recent Spanish adventure in photographs. We spent two nights in the city of Madrid, staying in the cool and hip area of Tribunal. As Chris and I didn't know much about the city we played it by ear and kept it chill by walking aimlessly around. We later met our good friend Jeremias who knows the city well and visited the Royal Palace and a nice space called Matadero which is a developed creative space. Food wise we ate a bunch of yum tapas and drank beers in cute little tumblers all at 11pm as it is the norm there to eat dinner late. Near our place we came across a cute cafe called Toma where some guy was taking pictures of us drinking our coffees for some local magazine, so our faces may be circulating somewhere! As we knew we were not staying long we opted for a pricey hop on and off open tour bus ticket just to cover all the city and seeing a glimpse of what all the little neighbourhoods had to offer. Tour buses are something I rarely do on holidays but it is a nice easy way to cover lots of ground. I really thought I was going to go to Barcelona this year after hearing so many good stories from friends so it was a surprise that I ended up in Madrid but I was so happy I did as it has so much going on, and is very modern but still very Spanish. After we left the city we drove further out to a region called Extremadura, and those photos will come soon after! Spainstagrams!
Two weeks until I spend a few days in Spain and I am soooooo looking forward to it. Hopefully I will be able to catch a cool Flamenco show while out there. I will be flying into Madrid and then off to Don Benito visiting a friend. Anyone have any cool travel tips? Also, look at the fantastic painting of the beautiful Flamenco dancer I found at renatadomagalska.pl, stunning!
Hopefully I will be the Mother of some cute quarter Mexican kiddos someday, and it would be nice for them to feel at home in all the places where their linage lies. So when I was dream holiday searching on Air BnB I came across their Mexico City Neighbourhood guide, where it outlines all the different sectors and what you can find in each place. If you haven't looked at this part of their site before you must as it is really useful is choosing where you may want to stay when visiting a new City. I looked at what the creative, Arts centered areas were and found this place called Roma Norte, and it just looks brilliant! I asked my friend who lives in DF if it is as cool as it looks, and she said yes. :) Hopefully in the years to come I can live in many different places, especially in Mexico at some point so I can teach my kids to feel at home as at one point I would have too, and I think I would want to live here! This guide really provides a nice light in contrast to the usual common media Mexico City has for being rough and dodgy, and will hopefully encourage more Europeans to visit and explore such an amazing place. Air BnB team up with local photographers to showcase an area and these photos that will follow are by Alicia Vera and Javier Sirvent. This looks like a cool place to eat! Rave Rave Rave! Cute little boutiques. Cool hip stores. Fresh produce from the Markets. Streeeeeeeeeeeeeeet ART!
By Ruven Afanador via Honestly WTF I'm not reserved in my postings of Fashion Editorials set in Peru, but this time this offering is slightly different to the norm. What is showcased so nicely here is the contrast between setting a clothing. It is nice to see some outfit's styled totally independent of Peru's well known craft and tapestry industry, but still showcasing vibrant colours in modern feminine styles. The green crop top with matching skirt and the 50s cut purple floral dress would be dream additions to my Mexican honeymoon collection!
