I love the VISUAL.  I love images, I love layouts, typography and all these things that contribute to modern media design.  The basis to all the magazines I read, the campaign billboards I gawk at and all the banners I click are, photographs.  With sites such as Flickr, and all the numerous blogs I peek at you tend to come across people, artists even who inspire and interest you.  With the more certain styles I tend to lean too, you also learn about the photographers behind them.  As I adore things that are feminine, pretty and sophisticated but equally the sharp, bold and edgy I thought i would share a few of the photographers who's work I have come to appreciate.  And guess what?  They are all Women too!

GEMMA BOOTH

Picture
Manchester born Gemma.  Has a style that suits to shooting the fresh, young and lovely.  With big agency representation she has secured such commerical work with the likes of American Eagle, Billabong and even Chanel!  I personally love how she catches light to create the softness of feminity that her subjects posses so effortlessly.  Her portfolio includes work with such musicians such as Outkast, The Arctic Monkeys and The Magic Numbers creating a vastness in the subjects she works with.

Her website www.gemmabooth.com houses all her work to date under such headings like; documentary, portraits and fashion.  If you also wanted to delve into what inspires her, check out her blog too, which can be found at: http://gemmabooth.blogspot.com/

NIRRIMI

Picture
18.  Yes that is her age, and most annoyingly the bulk of her work hasn't just been recently.  Welcome everyone to what is Photography young darling Nirimmi.  From Australia, and raised by free spirited artisits this girl was destined to be a photographer, destined to be an artist.  Picking up her camera at the age of 13 she has clicked the years away catching moments of independent youth and the awkward beauty they possess.  Always managing to find subjects that seem to have years of experience behind their eyes but trapped in the bodies of teenagers, they are the images that you wished you had of your youth even if the setting was far removed of your own life.  Commericially, once signed to an agency a few years back she had been commisioned to shoot for big fashion mag Oyster, and then in 2009 she spent time in New York shooting the A/W campaign for Diesel.  At 18, she can find her images in publications such as Vogue and Elle.  Most recently she has starting working with Musicians such as New Zealand singer Brooke Fraser, creating the CD album art work for new Album flags.  If anything, good luck to her and the more backing she gets behind her I am sure she will continue to create some even more mesmerizing pictures.

SARAH MCCOLGAN

Picture
This is wear the hip hop and high fashion kicks in.  This is Sarah Mc Colgan.  From new Jersey but based in New York this lady has worked her way up from art school, the local paper to the pages and screens of the glossiest Magazines.  Also features on one of my all time favourite shows America's Next Top Model, I just had to feature her.  Shooting for the likes of Source, King and Pepsi her highly digital style works well with the clients she has.  Her images spread from Documentary subjects, like the Blue Collar workers of the USA, celebrity clients like Nick Cannon and also charitable causes that she does in New York Galleries.  Her website will inspire you, especially in the whole street style culture and her blog that she works on with her stylist friends will also give you an insight to the behind the scenes of her images and the campaigns they appear on.
