Today is a very special birthday for my sister Tel! My sister, friend and muse, I love her so much. She is the greatest, and a perfect Bamboo Model. This is her in a 2012 shoot for some Bamboo threads in our Granny's house in the Philippines. :)
I am sure that a lot of you know the Street Etiquette guys and what they do and represent; and some of you won't. This duo comprised of Travis Gumbs and Joshua Kissi are a prime example of being of the internet generation, and how this has led them to create their own careers centering on style and culture. They have created content for an audience that was not currently being reached, purely by creating content that they themselves would like. From the roots of their blog they have collaborated with brands such as VSCO Cam to create their own photography filters to footwear brands like Uggs. In addition to being written about by the likes of Vogue, GQ, Complex, Essence, Guardian UK and Fantastic Man.
Just this week TED Talks uploaded their talk they gave back in November talking about style, how it is more than fashion, and creating style content whilst bringing up socio-economic topics within the imagery. They create the conversation that a lot of people want to be having, including myself! I have followed these guys online for a few years now and really inspired by what they do and the projects they have been involved with (some mentioned in the video). I have uploaded the video of the talk below, it is really nice to see the though process of their work but also endearing as you know it is organic in the sense that they are a little nervous giving the talk, and clearly love what they do. Hope you enjoy!
Happy New Year Bamboo Babies!!!!
How has 2015 been treating you so far? For me it has been very busy, very exciting, at times worrying but all generally cool. Like mentioned previously I spent my last night of 2014 with my hubby and friends at a Hip Hop club in Brixton. It was a laugh and good fun but I am slowly feeling that "clubbing" is getting too young for me, haha. On New Years day my husband (lol, husband) went to Abu Dhabi for work photographing a wedding and was away for 5 days, so with that in mind I did a New Years crazy cleaning and laundry spree and spent time at my parents. Sadly my oldest sister became unwell and had to go to hospital and was in there for a week, however she is out now and is doing much better!
I didn't go too crazy on the boxing day sales, however I did buy stuff. One being this new Topshop Mac! It was originally £150, then reduced to £75, I get further discount on a friends and family scheme so VIOLA! Just over £50 I spent in the end. I was worried it would be too long for me but I kind of like that, and I kind of like that I look like Inspector Gadget. I also bought a Nike drawstring bag, how throwback is that?! I remember in Secondary school this is what we used for schoolbags. It is actually a good size and handy when I go to Spanish class (oh yes, that is something I do now!) The furry hat I have had for ages, I think it was a Primarni jobby.
Have you also noticed the little layout change? I have made it a little more simple. Hope you like it!
