Last night I watched this: Now you should visit this: http://www.i-heart.org/
Basically my Mama and Papa are hotties. That is what people need to know. Words can not express how much I love my Parentals, for their love, support and laughs...but another thing I can totally thank them about is passing on their love for style on to moi. There is this one particular album that was floating around our house and seriously it was like looking at a fashion spread. The era was the late 70s and early 80's. Coming out of that glam, disco season and moving on to what would be the funky 80s. My parents had such an effortless style, but also keeping in line with what was current fashion trend at the time. Daddy Mel rocked the skinny look that half of London's Indie kids are trying so hard to portray presently, graphic tees, simple sweaters and Skinny suits, ON POINT. He was super into Basketball when he was in High School and kept some of his old Vests which are brilliant. Think Lords of Dogtown, meets South East Asia. Part of me think he looks a little like a young Bruce Lee. Mama Cho was and still is a babe. Known for her style throughout the years she presents elegance and class, and as the years pass shows what living gracefully is all about. We have so many old photo albums in our house, and every couple of years we go through phases of pulling them all out and going through them all. So many times my two sisters and I have ooohed and aaahed at her outfits, make up and hairstyles. I have been fortunate to have claimed some kept pieces, but my sister Krystel has claimed the most being blessed with inheriting Mama's petite figure. Here are some snaps from the same album the ones of my Dad are from, and also some really old school ones when she was rocking out that island flavour in her teens.
Starting to feel that World Cup fever... England will always have my heart, pretty sad though that my Mama won't be around so to watch it this year with us, she loves shouting at the T.V, it's pure comedic genius! Brilliant ad below, and it even has Gael Garcia Bernal in it! Loads of ideas come into my head randomly, and the majority of them have to do with clothes and their design. I had an idea of incorporating some more jumpers and hoodies into the mix and this is the first idea I tried out. An off the shoulder, braided trim sweater! On the left is my simple design sketch and once I gathered all the materials I was off. The final outcome came out really rough but it is something I totally want to build on as something I may want to produce in more quantities after I work out some minor kinks. I love samples, but what happens when I make these things and they are not near selling quality is that I end up with piles of pieces! Maybe once I make a few more I will hold my very own sample sale! It was a little tricky to make and I did end up having to hand sew the braided trim on as it was quite tough, my metal thimble was my best friend indeed. So while I enjoy my new cute sweater I can lounge around in you can enjoy the pictures! Call me a cheeseball but I LOVE Teen Vogue! I used to read this mag while I was legitimately a teen, that was after Cosmogirl and Elle Girl became defunct and I loved how they styled everyone so fresh, and girly but stilled managed to have the high fashion aspect of it. When I was younger I was able to relate to the styling more than big Girl's Vogue, and though now I do not buy it every month religiously I still pick up a few issues every year, peek the website and follow them on Twitter. What I personally feel I can get away with in still reading this is that the majority of the people they feature are still my age but slowly that is not becoming so, with so many features on too many cute up and coming 19 year olds...eeeeek. However if Whitney Port was able to work for Teen Vogue then it's all fine...hehe. Their fashion stories are so cute, they do manage to incorporate international models and have the biggest Photographers shooting for them, even the likes of Mario Testino. I am not shy to say where I get my inspiration from, and like my LULA post I did a few months ago, I can totally see a Bamboo District vibe in the magazine one day. here's to hoping.
More Pics below: I am trying to keep up to date with the posts but in the mean time follow me on twitter at: www.twitter.com/bamboodistrict A Few months ago I had the above photo as one of the Banners of the Blog. The clothes I was wearing were these Natural silk kimonos that I got from HK. They arrived in the form of giant shapeless MooMoos and I have been meaning to make them int the kimono style dresses I had made previous. So after putting it off for a while I made a Purple one as requested by a lovely lady in California. So they went from this: To this (eeeeek, my room is messy): This purple dress came out looking really nice, and the Natural Silk aspect made it look so much more elegant. It now lives on the West Coast Of America living with a very happy customer. Seeing as this dress was so cute I thought I'd better make more...and I can as I have a black one and a blue one still available. I would love to make the dresses as close to the measurements of any prospective client as possible so if you are interested in a BLUE or BLACK kimono mini, hit me up on: [email protected] and we can go from there.
I'm totally loving that Summer is coming up, gorgeous Bamboo weather for sure. Love you all, Nat xoxo |
