Last week I posted about a wedding I was going to and was deciding what to wear out of two dresses. I chose the yellow one and I went about 'Unprettifying' it by throwing on a nice slouchy kimono jacket, adding an African inspired necklace and wearing my hair down to contrast the prom aspect of the dress. It was a lovely wedding, the bride was STUNNING and the Church service was really special as it was both in English AND Chinese. The Chinese part of the guests sang a hymn in their language and it was beautiful. I think this is the last wedding I will be attending this year and what a good one to end it on.
Here are some random pics from the night. They are a collection of mine and friends instagrams! Yup, last Saturday I sprained my ankle in the park! It was me vs a divet! I was home bound until Tuesday, then hobbling around London with a crutch until weds and since then I have been bandaged up limping all around the place. Lessons learned, I need to watch where I am going. While at work I have been looking a lot at Pinterest for a potential office refurb, and came across this lovely print. Not only does it look great but it is pretty true and something I have been making every effort to do. Not only have I been working on this office switch around but have been getting to use my graphic skills with some other projects within the company which has been ace! In less than two weeks the Hillsong Velocity Big Weekend is coming up in Hackney. It is an event for the 25+ Community at my Church, and this year will be held at The Hangar. I have been tasked with decorating some of the space and the theme is Industrial, and have been saturated with visuals of this nature. It is now safe to say that I am rolling in Big girl bucks I want to live in a warehouse and fill my living space with reclaimed items. Hopefully the space looks nice on the night, I will post pics when the event is over. Though the date is not set I might be doing a shoot project soon so been prepping some images for inspiration. It is quite interesting how certain people lean towards different styles of shooting. From my Pin boards it becomes apparent that my curated imagery all sort of exude a certain, girlishness, sexiness and quirk to them. I love location shoots where the settings are just as fabulous as the model and clothing. As mentioned in an old post, the ASOS Magazine cover shoots are my favourite of all!
Hola! It has been a while since I posted something, and this is actually my first post as a (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep) 27 year old!! As my last Photoset showed, I had a blast with my friends just hanging out in my back garden. It was a simple affair with lots of laughs, and lots of food. Recently I have been thinking a lot about my blog. I think I mentioned previously that after attending the Company Magazine Blog awards that a revamp or some investment needed to be made to push it forward in the right direction. That being said I have been reading a fantastic book that my boyfriend got me for my birthday called Blog Inc written by Joy Cho of the amazing and successful Oh Joy! blog. This little book is such a great tool for inspiring the blogging world, really hitting home that blogs can be about anything that you want. Obviously there are keys to making them engaging and visually appealing which the book touches on too and with that I decided to...wait for it...book myself on to this awesomely fun blog and photoshop course called Blogshop. The teachers of this course are part of one of my favourite blogs Design Lovefest and Angela&Ithyle, bringing together graphics design and photography. The courses are mostly held in America but they have visited London a few times which is awesome...HOWEVER...I am not attending their next course here at home but going to...................................... ....yup! After returning from Paris I was itching to book somewhere else to go. I was heavily leaning toward Barcelona (and that may still be on the cards at some point before the year is out) but when I saw that the Blogshop course was running in Stockie and was the only place in Europe that was on the listing I thought "Why the dickins not!" So within no time I paid for my admission, found some decent places to stay, scoped the flights AND managed to get 3 others to come with me to make it a full city break. So the end of September I will be enjoying the Scandinavian sites and learning some good know how of the Blog world. I am really excited!
More regular posts to follow! Photos by Pinyata I'm a simple soul and nothing is dearer to my heart than my friends and family, so to celebrate my upcoming 27th Birthday I had a bunch of them around for some food, drinks and a old whack at the Pinata. The rain was on and off but our trusty garden cover was the hero of the day...and my oldest sister Eiza who made the best friend chicken EVER! Here are some photos, as you can tell people got way in to bashing the poor donkey.
Pere lachaise cemetary, on a sunny morning is strangely pleasant and beautiful. We went to walk around there as soon as it opened and were impressed by the beautiful tombs and crypts. It is known for holding the graves of many famous Frenchman and other well known people too like Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison. After that we walked around the trendy Canal St Martin area where we had a nice Flat white from Cafe Ten Belles, sat along the canal and then shuffled through the wonderful books at design book shop Artazart. I bought a fantastic book about Brand identities for small businesses and it has given me so many ideas, I carry it around with me everywhere recently! After grabbing a drink at one of the many outdoor cafe bars along the streets of Paris we went to the largest flea Market the city had to offer, St-Ouen Flea Market. It has some beautiful stalls that make you wish you had 100 rooms of your own to decorate. The Market though is located right next to another market that sells cheap clothes and electronics which was a little manic when we were there. To end the day which was our last we had a lovely steak and frites dinner at RELAIS DE L’ENTRECOTE, accompanied with a lovely reserve. After dinner, we ran to get our bags and rushed to the Bus Station for our 11pm trip back to London. And, that was that...for now anyway. Paris Je t'aime.
Two days in Paris is not enough especially if the last time you were there you were fourteen and travelling with mum and dad. Saying that though, two days is all we had and we made the most of it. Taking the coach meant cheap travel but it left me feeling quite sleepy when we arrived in at 5.30am, and then waiting until 6am for the Metro to open didn't help. Once we finally got on the Metro the excitement started as I started to hear French words flitting through the air, party goers on their way home and the quaint tiled signs showing each station. We alighted near the Notre Dam and saw the sites in the early morning choosing against mingling with the tourist groups that would of visited later in the day. Sauntering along the River we made our way past all the major landmarks including Mr Eiffel Tower and ended at the Modern Art Museum. It was reaching half one, and we were allowed to check in at 2pm so after 7hrs of morning site seeing we went to sleep ready for the evening. The evening was all about Montmarte (the home of Amelie!) where we climbed up the steps to the Sacre Coeur, ate a lovely dinner just off the main cobbled streets; enjoyed the beautiful sunset over Paris and grabbed a few drinks. I made everyone walk to the Moulin Rouge because I am cheesy tourist. We did do a whole bunch of walking this trip but to me that is the best way to explore all the nooks and crannies. Part two to come...
Last week I attended the Company Style Blogger awards which I know many of you voted for me to win the 'Best Designed' category. Again, thank you so much. Unfortunately I did not win but as much as it is a cliche to say, I feel special even getting so far. The night was fun too and there were so much awesome freeness (inc, BAR!!) that the goodie bag alone made the wearing heels in the rain worth it. As I turned up alone I was a bit apprehensive as to how the night will pan out but after doing the room circle, you know; when you do a lap of the place you are to check out the scenery (usually apt for when going to the club) and taking some snaps here and there I sat down and got to chatting to the lovely Toni from tandffashion; her blog was up for best style blog. We stuck together for the rest of the night and it was a blast, and get this....SHE GREW UP IN WEMBLEY! Like me! Haha. So after the awards were read out there were many things to check out like a sunglasses customizing section, a Paul Mitchell hair corner and a photobooth. As I am balls at at 'networking' I gave myself one goal and it was to chat to the Editor of the magazine Vicky White, and I did and she was a doll. Without much strategy I ended up nattering away to the acting Photo Editor and a features writer which was nice too. The annoying thing was that everyone was asking if I had a card....do people who blog have cards now?! That is something I never considered, especially when the idea of writing as a title 'blogger' actually make me cringe. The whole night was an enjoyable experience but something I am not seeking to attend often. However, after the night was over, when I was travelling home I did have some ideas about the future of my blog; what it could be as a brand and the overall direction of it and it put my mind into overdrive. In a good way! In conclusion, there is a lot of work that needs to be done by me, but hard work pays off right?? Pics of the night! Instagram (@mamabamboo)!
Photo: Just Jared Today the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards are upon us and if you do not know TheBambooDistrict.com is a finalist for their Best Designed Blog Award! The awards are being held at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane London and too be honest I have no idea what to expect. I was taking a peek through twitter and looking at the awards hastags and it seems that a lot of the nominees are going all out with their outfits...uhoh. However, considering I am probably about 10 years older than the average person there and I am coming from work I am not stressed about going over the top with my look today. I have opted for an old Bamboo tie dye fringe t shirt and some high waist slacks. If I do end up winning...let's just hope I do not do a Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars!
