PS. 100 days until I get married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mentioned previously that I turned 28 last month. I went out for dinner with my babe man, yummed down and drank an awesome Lychee and Chilli cocktail. Obviously I wanted to dress up but I am not really a dressy dressy person. In the end I donned a simple long sleeved floral shift dress which I picked up a few years back at a vintage shop, my hazy memory thinks it was Beyond Retro. Also, the Genesis of this dress did not look as it does now, no no no. It started life as one of those 80s mid length waisted dresses that you see in droves in vintage shops. The kind that no modern girl would see dead in but in a print that you just want so bad. I took the elasticated waistband out, and shortened it. A little snip snip, sew sew and you get your own one of a kind -to- you dress. I wore it with my pink floppy felt hat which gave it a 70s vibe, and popped all the white accents of the dress with a white manicure which surprisingly didn't look like I tippexed my nails; and some white pointy sling back shoes. Shortly after this photo was taken however the thin heel of my shoe got stuck in a pavement crack and snapped the strap! :( I threw them away after; I left them by a bin in Soho Square ornately adding to the mystery of abandoned shoes across the world, but this time you know the story of mine. It's the third day in a row now where I've pulled out the hair clay to hold down my over grown fringe, titled my head forward, caned it with hair spray and flipped it over my right shoulder. This side flippy flippy do' is a look I always seem to come back to. Years back when my hair was growing out from a questionable Kelly Osborne undercut situation I started getting big round brush blow dries (this is when working at a Hair Salon) and thinking I was some 80s girlbabe with my huge quaff bouncing about. Then when my hair grew a lot longer I went through a super straight, short fringe Asian fantastic GoGo Yubari thing, but all the days I couldn't be bothered with hair straighteners, especially after a day where my hair was in a bun, again I went big side flippy flippy! Fast forward back to present days, again I am in a land of indecision whether to grow out my fringe or not so that teamed with it being summer and my life long desire to be that 80s babegirl I am here again with my hair side flipped.
There are so many variations to this look. For moi, the bigger and more tousled the better. However. it can look super chic on a bob too, or if groomed a little more can border on being a Veronica Lake kind of babe! Here are just a few other examples of the slide flip hair that I adore. I should maybe start a tag for all the JR content I post on my blog. First it was my first mention of him when I discovered his work and also when I went down to be part of his prolific Inside Out Series when it came to London. This time around I want to share his new video documenting his time with Artist José Parlá in Havana as they work on their project Wrinkles of the City. This video gives a nice insight to the history, people and culture of Havana, Cuba and how their reactions to this Art project really defines the character of the place. Havana is a place with not external advertising, so no huge billboards, bus posters or bus ads so having huge visual pieces erected on the sides local buildings and monuments. There are some really cute people featured in this film, and if any of my friends who are going over to Cuba later this year are watching this, here is a little taster of where you will be going! :) All content via http://www.jr-art.net/
I said I was going to post more summery outfits and what can be more summery than a shorts and top print combo! In this photo I am in Spain so happy that I can wear these separates together. I wear the top all the time with jeans in all seasons and getting to don the shorts on holiday made me love the top again in a different way as it is a whole new look. This little number is from the Philippines, where we just where them like house lounge wear. I had bought many items like this in 2012 to sell on, I sold a few pairs of shorts and dresses but summer didn't really hit off that year and people weren't really interested in the sets. I started wearing some of them myself which was cool as I loved the look and would of bought them if another high street retailer sold them so thought it was a no brainer to just keep them. However now in 2014 it is all about Print SETS! I was a year too early it seemed, haha. However though my collection was limited to shorts and tops places like Topshop and ASOS have a variety of cropped tops, with trousers, shorts and skirts of all lengths which is great. Print is my thing, and when fashion decides it is only for hippies and safari goers again I will ignore them all and still dress like the little island girl I am. :) Are you off on holibobs soon? Have a look at some cool threads that are out at the moment...and a look at my sister too in the middle, coz she is a babe.
Photo-The Fashion Medley My friend Elle posted this picture above of a Pillow Corner on Pinterest and as soon as I saw it I re-pinned that bad boy. Firstly, how cosy does that look? Crawl in there with a good book and if you are anything like me fall asleep after two pages, and have a nap. I am sure you would have a pretty nice nap. Secondly, on a personal level it reminded me of when I was a tiny bub and the really hot summers London used to get which has somewhat become a national myth; my parents used to lay out two double duvets, throw a couple of sheets and blankets on there and we would all play and hang out there for most of the day. My sisters and I would roll around, faux wrestle then pass out! So with my past affiliation with floor comfiness, last year I came across this site Just Floor Cushions when having grand ideas of turning my room into a Pinterest dream, but didn't happen, haha. My room is a tip! So on the site I bought a 36in x 36in cushion with no cover as it was in the bargain corner, thinking I would make a cover for it as I had heaps of material left from when I was making clothes. It arrived in two days...then I just left it. It stayed in the corner unopened from the packaging for way over a year, until last Saturday that it! I was at home, clearing that section of my textile stock and thought, lets make this thing! I cut opened then plastic post bag it came in, and roughly cut some material, dusted off the sewing machine and viola! had an awesome cushion I was dreaming about for a year, within an hour! It is quite a big boy, and super comfy. So comfy that I spotted my sister having a little rest on it the other day ^^^. This particular material used is also the same print but in red of a skirt I made which is quite Sound of Music of me. As I am impatient with a lot of things and just want to enjoy the finished product ASAP, I skipped on a lot of processes to make it a lot neater, as if I was going to give it as a present or sell it; but for myself, it's perfect. I may make one more so we can have two for the new flat Chris and I are hoping to move in to after the wedding. I am super into home furnishings at the moment, this is definitely a signifier of me getting older methinks. Oooo!
Photos by Alexander Neumann via FGR What I love about Latin based destination Fashion Editorials is that the styles in the hair and beauty department are either one of two of my desired looks. Either boho messy or super chic sophisticated. This shoot for Russian Bazaar is SoooooPHISTICATION to a tee. The sleek hair with side parting is the epitome of class, and is perfectly paired with the nude make up on Chanel Iman's gorgeous face. The styling too is divine with black lace, rainbow coloured mini dresses and floral Maxis from the spring-summer collections of Elie Saab, Prada,Valentino to mention a few. Ugh, I WANT!
Photo here So some of you may know that my upcoming wedding will be in Mexico. This aspect of the wedding can be a little tricky when trying to organise accommodation for your family, and their travel plans but that is easily cancelled out by the fact that we will be all together somewhere beautiful, and different from our usually English surroundings!! Planning has been fun too, skimming through the net for ideas for the ceremony, meal and reception party. One thing we decided on was a beach ceremony, so God willing the weather will be on our side so we can say our I do's on the sand with the Ocean as our backdrop. Here are some of my favourite ceremony set ups I have found on Pinterest, some similar to what we will go for and some totally different but too gorgeous not to share. Happy daydreaming. :)
Today in London Town the sun is shining and giving me some good vibes all over! In this spirit of optimism I will post my last wintery looking outfit, and willing for Spring vibes to dictate my future Wardrobe posts for the next few months. This look is Street Geek Chic. Street from the Primark leopard print cap, Geek from the Todds patent loafers I was given and Chic for this gold sweater that I got from Pimkie Paris. Annoyingly when buying this sweater I got a little lost in translation as there was a big red tag that had some french words but -50% too, so I thought SWEET! Bargain. When I got to the counter it was full price but I was shy to say anything, haha. Apparently the tag said buy one get second 50% off, eck. It's become a fave of mine so I guess it was worth it in the end! Grab the look from these places below! 1. Black MOM Jeans-Topshop. 2. Leopard Print cap- American Apparel. 3. Patent Loafers-ASOS. 4. Quilted Sweater-ASOS
My wonderful friends Sally and Simon are newly weds, with their one year anniversary of their amazing wedding coming up in July! It was such a fantastic wedding with really beautiful details that represented the couple perfectly. It was quirky, vintage and classy all in one. So how cool is it that today popular wedding site: Rock My Wedding featured their wedding because it was so fantastic! Photos were taken by another friend of ours Ben Wetherall Photography and he captured the day in all it's glory. That July day was so much fun and filled more importantly with so much love and joy. This couple are fantastic, and you should check out the rest of this feature on the Rock My Wedding site here. All photos by Ben Wetherall
If you like me were born in the late 80s then your impressionable childhood years were infiltrated by such bubble gum bands like this! It is only now, in my late twenties I can look back and appreciate the awesomeness, not only for Irish Pop songstresses but for double denim. Double denim actually has been making all sorts of fashionable revivals for the past years, leaning toward being something quite chic and not just reserved for you Country Music loving Uncle. One time I even sported triple denim...but I think that was a little OTT, even for me. My outfit above was worn when having a nice weekend walking around London, taking in an Art exhibition, brunching with friends and all that other good stuff. As it was getting warmer after months of Siberian chill my awesome denim bomber came out of hiding, this jacket I picked up in a second hand store in Williamsburg in 07'. It's the best! I paired them with some jeans, the closest to the shade of the jacket as possible; and also worn with my nice cropped H&M jumper which they are selling lots of currently in different colours. Even though they don't really match I wore my chunky gold coin earrings that remind me of the cool accessories in the Dolce and Gabanna collections, I am trying to incorporate this sort of vibe with my bridesmaids later this year. I also draped my Asos Fur collar on but I can remember it kept flying off in the wind, and was actually pretty annoying, haha.
