My hope and dream for the future (among many things) is that the portrayal of style, fashion and art is not merely through the narrow funnel of thinness. I am not anti thin, not at all. I find slender shapes beautiful, as I do many others. However there is beauty, cool, style and quirk in all, and many women need to be reminded or convinced of that. The division of size into different industries can tumble down too if I had my way, and that many campaigns and group scenes would feature multiple models of all races and shapes with out it being a big deal. I wonder if I will see that in my life time. Hope so.
Image Source: Here It really is no secret that I love blogs, online content, fashion, styling, photography and body/racial diversity.... So when looking through my daily dose of Pinterest and Bloglovin' and thinking about what I should write on my blog it came to me that I have been a bit naughty and not really showcasing as much Plus size and Straight size model content as I would like. Obviously the offering on the production on amazing Fashion editorials featuring such body types are rare, and when money is spent on a beautiful shoot the models are either styled as La Dolce Vita sirens, and half nude. Curves are sexy for sure but they do not need to be overly sexualized to the extent as they are. Think about the famous Vogue Italia shoot, though undeniably fantastic and needed, moving forward Plus size fashion content needs something new, they need to showcase that plus sizes are just like everyone and everything else. I have gathered the following to show what I mean.... Soft natural lighting and bare to minimal makeup. There is a lightness to these photos that are so beautiful. I do not know why there aren't that many shoots that portray bigger girls in a glowing, softer air but there should! Flirty dresses in candy colours are what I am getting at here. I know many bigger girls who do not like to dress in these types of clothes as sometimes they feel it's playing dress up. These looks are feminine and pretty but it is in the cut of the outfit that gives it an edge and cool about them too. I think if more shoots would showcase this style more of bigger girls, especially younger ones in the teen market, then many would feel more confident. Shoots that have a quirky narrative and featuring plus/straight sized models are few and far between. These offbeat styles show playfulness and a whole lot of fun! The artistic factor is prominent here, and I want to see more quirky chubby women on my screen please! I bloody love a good print. My style icons are Solange Knowles and Nicole Richie and they love a good floral or folk stamp. The global fashion trend that is out now has been something second nature to a lot of Western second generation Asian and African kids like the Funk Berry girls. I added this pics as "Curvy" plus Print usually conjures up big kaftans and mumus but it's definitely not that! What gets me is that the trends and ideas of being described as Gamine, Elfin or Ingenue is what I have always wanted to be but because I was not an Audrey Hepburn waif or a Birkin daughter I thought "alas, tis not the life for me". However as I have gotten older, I realized it is more the attitude of simplicity, chicness and a carefree aura that they possessed, is where the draw came from. I personally love this look and even with my short legs and juicy butt try and pull this off, and in my own way I do sometimes.

I got my fringe/bangs/fringe cut a few days ago. I went for a really short style this time and has it more chopped into. I re-cut my fringe last year after trying to grow it out as I missed how fun it made up-dos look. Though recently my mind was paddling in the pool of regret and wished maybe I kept persevering and continued growing them out, that was until I kept seeing so many cute super shorter fringe styles, that were cut more chunky and less severe like a 24/7 Betty Page situation. So I went for it, as you can see for a lame phone photo above. Here are some better examples of some cuties rocking the style. Maybe it's something you may want to try? New Year, New Hair and all. A beautiful Editorial from Harpers Vietnam. Model Cici Xiang looks like a woodland nymph with natural makeup and flowing skirted gowns. These wonderful images were captured by photographer Stockton Johnson.
Orginal Photo found here I started writing this post with the content originally being about super long girl hair, but instead I was swayed into writing about long hair...on boys! Last night my sisters and I were watching the coverage from the 2014 Golden Globes. Mr Jared Leto aka Mr "I felt like destroying something Beautiful" (him being the beautiful) was on stage accepting an award. First things first...THIS MAN IS 42! FORTY TWO!!! Secondly, he is the dreamiest Long haired man out there. As may sisters and I chatted about his obvious good looks and shiny long hair the camera started panning on another Indie Hollywood heartthrob, Jaoquin Pheonix. He too had long locks tied into a cool ponytail... a MAN BUN. These men looked attractive and even more manly in my eyes with this hairstyle, many of you out there might not be convinced that this could be. Certainly tis not the look for all, as you can see here; and if my Fiance happens to read this "don't worry babe, I don't want you to grow your locks" but there is something about a man who can pull this off. So I leave you with an array of Long Hair Lads, up and out; there are a lot of accompanying beards too. Enjoy. Images found via Pinterest 'Man Bun'
All Photos from: www.lauredesagazan.fr So here it is. I did warn you all that my blog may occasionally turn Bride centered, and here is one of those moments. Like many a single girl, our relationship statuses do not hinder us from admiring Bridal wear or making a "My Wedding" board on Pinterest. So months ago when checking sites like Miss Moss and Honestly WTF this featured collection of Beach Bridal apparel took my breath away. Designer Laure de Sagazan captures an unmistakably beautiful, and laid back beach Bride. The elegance of this collection is so high, and this shoot that captures this spirit is spot on. Her lace detail is so close to making me a crazy bankrupt woman and part with cash I just do not have for one her pieces (but alas, I won't!) Here are just a few picks from an extensive range. Please check out the rest of her stunning collection on her site, it seriously is amazing. All Photos from: www.lauredesagazan.fr
First post of 2014! 2013 was a lovely year. Full of travels, sunshine and blog triumphs…let alone it being topped with my recent engagement!!
2014…what will it hold? So far it has been consumed with organising my wedding invites which have to be freakishly early as I am getting married in Mexico, God willing! The venue has been secured and it is really pretty. I know the year will pretty much be a build up to the celebration but I will not have the rest of the year be swallowed up by it. I hope to have a few more unvisited European cities under my belt (the beauty of living in London) and make more effort with my outfits and wearing makeup. Not liked a caked beauty Queen but some fresh, pretty looks. I also want to give some love back to my Canon camera and take photos again instead of relying on Instagram. I won’t be listing even more things as I know I will not stick to them but what I will stick to is a mantra of ‘being happy’ and centring my life to achieve this. |
