Photo via: Street Etiquette Slumflower, the recent project from Style duo Street Etiquette is an editorial based on a short film they are producing. Shot by Photographer Rog Walker in collaboration with VSCO the story of the visuals follows the story of a cute young boy in the 'Slums' of New York. Trying to show a different light than the stereotyped ghetto vibe of the NY Projects, the kid surrounded by his older counter parts are dressed slick and handsome bringing a different visual offering than what is usually seen. Seriously, this whole editorial is beautiful and you should all look at the whole thing over at Slumflower.com. It will be the best thing you will look at this week. Photos via Slumflower

Fashion Week NYC is/was in full effect. I have been keeping an eye on some blogger reviews online and there is some really cute things coming up for S/S next year. New York for me is the least adventurous in their offerings but the designers have the best wearable aspects from the like of Oscar de la Renta, Victoria Beckham, Sass & Bide and of course J.Crew. Style.com is the best place to see the full collections in my opinion. I was in a doodle mood this afternoon and scribbled this version of a J.Crew outfit. I may be doing this more often over the next few weeks. I will defo try and do one at least for each city.
All of these fantastic images are by Ali Graham, find more of Jay's problems here. So this little hip-hop and illustration appreciator got super excited when she saw a link of her Facebook feed to this internet pot of gold! Have you ever wondered what Rapper Jay-Z's 99 problems were knowing that 'the bitch aint one'? Well wonder no more as illustrator Ali Graham shows us in these series of images depicting the struggles Mr Carter may face in his daily life. Whether everyday woes like granny friend requests to some obvious #richboyproblems like his Rolex being broken, to even existential conundrums like not being able to bring the future back in time! He is facing it all. These are so clever and looks amazing, I am so impressed. To keep up to date with these happenings follow Ali's tumblr 99 Problems!
The Pixel Painter from The Pixel Painter on Vimeo. I loveVimeo staff picks. They really highlight and showcase some real talent, not just from the film malkers themselves but within the subject content too. The wonderful video The Pixel Painter is about 97 year old retired Graphic Designer Hal Lasko, who once given a Computer from his Grandchildren learnt how to paint wonderful pieces of Art on Microsoft Paint. What an inspiration showing that talent and passion for your craft never leaves you, no matter how old you get. It also shows that you are never too old to learn something wonderful that could change your life immensely. Go Grandpa!
Doodles by Moi Yeowzers, I haven't posted in a while. I have been a busy bee enjoying London life, helping my older sister move to Peckham and doing a little illustration project for a friend, hence the pic above! I do enjoy a doodle here and there and really enjoyed the images I produced so I thought I would share them. They were used for some fun vouchers, and it got me thinking about making some cool cards for Christmas for my family and friends...let's see if I actually get round to it.
Photography by Josh Olins I have brought it back with a classic for this Editorial Envy. The gorgeous Goddess that is Lakshmi Menon seriously giving some strong face, working that long straight black weave and just basically being amazing. Shot by Josh Olins and styled by Nicola Formichetti (yes of Gaga fame) this shoot is definitely as modern classic.
Image found here Midnight in New York the new song and video for Solange Knowles' tune Losing You came out. It's amazing!! The song is so pretty, and chilled but with a groove beat and the video is stunning. Set in South Africa, she has sharp suited men dancing about, she herself is dressed in such amazing clothes and her extras are all freakin good looking and are all having a great time. Directed by Melina Matsoukas (who I have written about before) this is another video of hers that join her bank of other visual delights. Enjoy, the video is below! Video: Vimeo Considering Yoji Yamamoto is super private this little video is a gem to find! Amazingly shot, nicely short to prepare us for the full feature and just basically cool. This is what a fashion promo should be like. Do you lovely guys and girls have any favourite video lookbooks, behind the scenes features or short art/fashion films you would like to recommend? If so leave a comment below and I will check it out! Thanks in advance!!!
Image via Google images 'Serge Seidlitz' Can you have art crushes? I know it is true you can have voice crushes (ask my best friend, and the case of the 'swedish' podcast) or 'OMG he plays the guitar' crushes and definitely camera crushes like my previous post on Ann He, but though potentially weird, I totally have a doodle crush! The object of my sharpie, pucca, edding pen crush is an artist called Serge Seidlitz!
All photos by Giuseppe Savini Photographer Giuseppe Savini scooted around Bologna with his collection of vintage photographs and found the modern day locations they were taken in. What a brilliant idea! |
