All Photos by Rog Walker via Vogue.com Riding on the end of my own wedding fever this morning I woke to a text from my equally gassed friend reading "Solange wedding pics". That alone broke the sleepy spell of waking up for work on a Monday morning as I jumped out of bed and Googled away. Oh Queen of Style Solange, I adore thee. What a truly unique visual for your wedding. So modern, and cool. The day featured two outfits, for the arrival and post party, a cream low cut jumpsuit and for the ceremony a custom made Kenzo gown both featuring some good cape action. Here are some of the official wedding portraits by Rog Walker featured on Vogue who got the first look in. Feast away.

Photo source Another season another Dries Van Noten review/write up/general lovefest. Paris Fashion Week was the stage to showcase DVN's new SS15 RTW collection. Fresh from my recent Paris trip where I went to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs to see his Exhibition of his inspirations, I was reminded why I adored his style and aesthetic so much. It was a multi media collection at the Exhibition too with not only pieces of his work on display but lots of photos, runway videos and even videos of the intricate processes he incorporates with embroidery and beading. I could of stayed there for hours. However back to the recent collection. Again not straying too far from his well known leanings to the world traveler his exotic prints and colours in this collection is the dream wardrobe of the sophisticated adventurer. The offerings range from cold shoulder, flowing dresses. Layered sheer long shirts over slouchy silk trousers. Topped off with long line jacquard jackets and low platform fur lined shoes. I just love how cool the girls look, but in a way that is effortless and inspirational. So with all that and my current desire I would like to ask the genie in bottle to grant me all these clothes please...and to add 6 inches on height so I can pull it off. Cheers. Here is a nice video with the main man himself. Here I am, at the Golden hour of my friend's wedding. It was held is a pretty barn house, and there were even horses behind me when this pic was taken; taken by the fittie head of PINYATA. This was the first time I wore this dress, it was on sale at ASOS for £12 or something like that. It made me feel sophisticated; and boho seeing as I don't have dresses this length and print really. It wasn't a real maxi but cut just above my ankles which I adored as I didn't feel swamped. I loved the cold shoulder cuts too. It ended up being the perfect dress for the turn of a cold season. My shoes have this really cool mirror reflective heel which you can't see too much of; it is a quirky effect but scratches easily so not ideal. I may need to paint over them in the future. Lastly my hair flowers were actually from an artificial potted plant from good old IKEA! The link for the actual ones I am wearing are below.
So this wedding, was my last one as a guest before my own! Less than 2 months to go! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Guys. Wedding Cray Cray has officially hit me. It is just two months until our Mexican wedding adventure; and even less until our UK marriage ceremony. We had not needed to do anything for months and now...BAM! It's all go go go. My brain has been saturated with spreadsheets, seating plans...I'm not totally stressed out, but I am more stressed than the peaced out hippy I have been up until now. Still awaiting some guest confirmations...with an R.S.V.P date of May! Lol. Been exercising so I can fit into my dress, and manged to hurt my back, haha; and trying to get a start on making the accessories for my bridesmaids. So much to do. On the plus side, my Mum came back from Philippines and brought me back my veil that my Auntie and her made. I love it so much. I think it is beautiful.
So, if I have been slack with my blog; well it's because I have turned into a nut job, haha. I have however managed to squeeze in a girls weekend to Paris next weekend though which I am so chuffed about. I will have much photos to share from there with you all too after that. I hope all my Bamboo Babies are doing well and I hope to post more frequently soon. In the meantime enjoy this awesome Vogue shoot by Mario Testino from 2011. What beautiful brides eh! I mentioned previously that I turned 28 last month. I went out for dinner with my babe man, yummed down and drank an awesome Lychee and Chilli cocktail. Obviously I wanted to dress up but I am not really a dressy dressy person. In the end I donned a simple long sleeved floral shift dress which I picked up a few years back at a vintage shop, my hazy memory thinks it was Beyond Retro. Also, the Genesis of this dress did not look as it does now, no no no. It started life as one of those 80s mid length waisted dresses that you see in droves in vintage shops. The kind that no modern girl would see dead in but in a print that you just want so bad. I took the elasticated waistband out, and shortened it. A little snip snip, sew sew and you get your own one of a kind -to- you dress. I wore it with my pink floppy felt hat which gave it a 70s vibe, and popped all the white accents of the dress with a white manicure which surprisingly didn't look like I tippexed my nails; and some white pointy sling back shoes. Shortly after this photo was taken however the thin heel of my shoe got stuck in a pavement crack and snapped the strap! :( I threw them away after; I left them by a bin in Soho Square ornately adding to the mystery of abandoned shoes across the world, but this time you know the story of mine. Grab the look below! PS. 100 days until I get married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.Floral Print Shift Dress, Missguided. 2.Felt Floppy Hat, Topshop. 3.White Nail Polish, Barry M. 4.White Sling Back, Dune.
It's the third day in a row now where I've pulled out the hair clay to hold down my over grown fringe, titled my head forward, caned it with hair spray and flipped it over my right shoulder. This side flippy flippy do' is a look I always seem to come back to. Years back when my hair was growing out from a questionable Kelly Osborne undercut situation I started getting big round brush blow dries (this is when working at a Hair Salon) and thinking I was some 80s girlbabe with my huge quaff bouncing about. Then when my hair grew a lot longer I went through a super straight, short fringe Asian fantastic GoGo Yubari thing, but all the days I couldn't be bothered with hair straighteners, especially after a day where my hair was in a bun, again I went big side flippy flippy! Fast forward back to present days, again I am in a land of indecision whether to grow out my fringe or not so that teamed with it being summer and my life long desire to be that 80s babegirl I am here again with my hair side flipped.
There are so many variations to this look. For moi, the bigger and more tousled the better. However. it can look super chic on a bob too, or if groomed a little more can border on being a Veronica Lake kind of babe! Here are just a few other examples of the slide flip hair that I adore. Photo via canada.com Here at the bamboodistrict.com it is no secret that style references and inspirations lean toward the casual, tropical and fun, however being like many other ladies out there, I do dream about gowns. Not that I think I would have to wear one that is so grand anytime soon I couldn't help but pour over the new Elie Saab collection that showed in Paris recently. This collection could clothe the next 15 oscars in my opinion and everyone would be best dressed. These gowns scream glamour, femininity and beauty. The colour offerings are diverse and pretty too. If I were a baller and getting married in a grand palace I would wear any of the dresses in the bottom left in a heart beat. Have a look at the full collection at Style.com like I did! When Summer descends on London Town we head to the parks. We are blessed with some nice open spaces for such a built up city, and break from the concrete to enjoy some grass and the Queen's finest Swans! My personal fave is Regents Park but recently my sissy and I sauntered our way South East to Greenwich. A little villagesque part of London with a super yum tum food market and lovely views of the river...and green space. Here I am wearing a staple of mine, a Rams American Football Jersey. I copped that in Brighton for £5 just before the trend hit hard style; however I think the Rams aren't that great a team, or am I wrong? The other items I have worn before and posted before, you know, black jeans, chunky cardigan....but my stand out piece this time is my gold men's silk scarf. I bought it years ago in a vintage market they hold (or used to hold) in Hammersmith. I was taking a sewing class years ago and the tutor had a stall and invited me, and when I did go this beauty just caught my eye. I love it so much. As the majority of the outfit was quite slouchy and boyish I slung on some black sling backs...which was funny when the heel started sinking in the field, haha. Oh well. Get the look, links below! 1. Black Skinny Jeans, New Look. 2. Steelers Top, Nike. 3. Men's Silk Scarf, The Tie Store. 4. Cardigan, ASOS. 5. Black Sling Backs, Topshop.
I came across this cool Swimwear label called Bantu when one of the people I follow on Instagram tagged them in a post. Obviously I love their print swimmers like this Three Stripes Bando: Reef, and pretty much everything in their collection. However, in addition to their actual products I love their Instagram Feed as it features real people (who are gorgeous anyway) wearing their pieces and images representing their influences. In their about page on their site, they say they are "Afro Punks", I love that cohesion of two previously polar opposite cultures. If you enjoy the mixing of sub cultures and African led fashion you should really follow all of their media platforms. Here is a taste of what's in store! ^ Instagram: @bantuwax
Do you guys likeID Magazine? We get the magazine free at work and I flick through it but I do not ingest it religiously like other magazines. However, what I have recently discovered is how wonderful their online home is. The content is diverse and extensive covering all the modern lifestyle fashion and arts sectors; and what I personally love is their video archive of different shorts ranging from interviews, behind the scenes and ID specifically created content like this series: Model Mother Tongue. The video edit is quirky, humorous and stylish featuring different models teaching phrases from their homelands! Obvi I love Liu Wen so I have added her's below to get an insight to some Mandarin mouthfuls. Included in the series is Russian, Danish and even AUSSIE, haha. Their More than a model series is cool too, you should peek! All content from ID
